You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
Patience is not something that we are very good at in the modern West. We live in an instant society where even a few seconds delay can irritate us. Yet as people who await the coming Advent of Jesus we have been waiting for nearly 2000 years. Learning to wait and to wait patiently and passionately as we exercise our faith and hope is part of growing in maturity in our faith.
It is interesting to see how scientists practice faith as the seek and search and wait for results. In this somewhat surprising TED talk Adam Spencer talks about a life long interest in maths and the search for prime numbers. As quirky as his interest may seem it came as a reminder for me of the journey we are on at Christians searching for signs of the coming Christ.
