They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.
The vision of the end times in the scriptures is ultimately not a vision of destruction but a vision of renewal for the whole creation. In the midst of the way we have exercised our dominion as human beings charged with stewardship of all that God made good it is a source of hope and challenge to the way we live to be reminded that God’s intention is not destruction but rather renewal.
I first saw this video by Jeremy Jackson “How we wrecked the oceans” about 4 years ago and whenever I encounter references to the seas in scripture I am reminded of this assessment of our stewardship and challenged to think about how we as Christians are called to live celebrating God’s love for the creation, expressed most deeply through the incarnation, and as we anticipate the renewal of all things, which God has promised in the resurrection of Jesus.
